FIRST PAPER! FishEcon Working Paper 1/10

Properjohn, Mark & Tisdell, John (2010) Results of a pilot travel cost study of the recreational use of Moreton Bay

ABSTRACT:
This paper presents the results of a pilot travel cost study of the recreational use of Moreton bay. This paper reports the results of a pilot travel cost study of recreational boat owners using Moreton bay. The study aimed to: (1) gain an understanding of the demographic characteristics and travel behaviour of fishers in the bay. Their recreational preferences were elicited to reveal: (a) whether individuals are willing to pay (WTP) for a recreation fishing licence in MBMP; and (b) whether the Marine Parks (Moreton Bay) 2008 Zoning Plan will affect their recreation activity; (2) compare actual and perceived estimates of travel costs involved with the day trip to MBMP for recreational boating; and (3) estimate of the benefits (consumer surplus (CS)) gained by individuals who use MBMP for recreational boating purposes.
